Representative example (PAngV): The interest rate you receive depends on your personal credit profile (Bonität). The rates shown in the comparison are individual offers from partner banks. Under German law (Preisangabenverordnung), lenders must show a representative example where at least two thirds of approved applicants receive the advertised rate or better (2/3 Zins). Your actual rate may be higher or lower depending on your financial situation.

How Instant Credit Works in Germany

An instant credit (German: Sofortkredit) is a regular installment loan with a faster digital process. The "instant" part refers to the approval decision, not the payout. You apply online, and if everything checks out, you get a preliminary answer within minutes. The money itself usually arrives within one to three business days, sometimes faster.

What makes it faster than a traditional loan is the technology behind it. Most German banks now offer a digital account check (Kontoblick), video identification (VideoIdent), and electronic signatures. That means no printing, no mailing, no waiting in line at a post office.

Two Numbers You Should Know

When you compare loan offers, pay attention to two things. The Effektivzins (effective annual interest rate) tells you the real total cost of the loan, including all fees. The Sollzins is just the base interest without extras. Always compare using the Effektivzins.

You will also see the 2/3 Zins in German loan advertisements. This is the rate that at least two thirds of approved customers actually receive. It gives you a much more realistic expectation than the advertised minimum rate, which typically only applies to people with perfect credit scores.

If you want to compare loan types beyond instant credit, check our credit comparison overview or the German credit comparison page. If you prefer a fully digital process with no documents to mail or scan, our guide to online loans without paperwork explains how that works.

Getting Instant Credit as a Foreigner in Germany

Banks in Germany do lend to foreigners, but the requirements are stricter than what you might be used to. Here is what most lenders expect:

  • Residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel). A tourist visa is not enough. Banks want to see that you plan to stay.
  • German bank account. Your salary needs to go into a German account. If you do not have one yet, consider opening a free bank account first.
  • Proof of income. Payslips from the last two to three months. Permanent contracts are preferred over fixed-term ones.
  • Schufa check. If you are new to Germany and have no Schufa history, some banks are more flexible than others. You can read more about loan options without Schufa. Since March 2026, the new SCHUFA scoring system makes it easier to understand what affects your score.

One tip that actually makes a difference: state a specific purpose for your loan (car, furniture, debt consolidation). Banks give slightly better rates for earmarked loans compared to general-purpose ones, because the risk is lower for them. If you are relocating, our moving loan guide covers everything from deposit financing to furniture costs.

Your Rights as a Borrower in Germany

  • 14-day cooling-off period. After signing a loan contract, you have 14 days to cancel without giving any reason. No penalties.
  • Early repayment. You can pay off your loan at any time. The bank may charge a prepayment fee, but it is capped at 1% of the remaining amount (0.5% if less than 12 months are left).
  • Transparent terms. Before you sign anything, the bank must show you the effective interest rate (Effektivzins) and a full repayment schedule. No surprises.

A note on payment protection insurance (Restschuldversicherung): Some banks will offer this during the application process. Consumer advocates generally advise against it. The premiums are high and the payout conditions tend to be very restrictive. A separate disability insurance policy (Berufsunfähigkeitsversicherung) is usually the better option if you want coverage.
